Martin Luther King Jr. was a champion for the disenfranchised, the minority, the poor, and the exploited. His life of only forty years could be considered as short as a dream, but that was not his dream. His dream was for a more connected future where the only defining differences between two people were distinguishable below the skin.
In the pursuit for full equality and unlimited compassion for all people, he was assassinated while supporting the rights of sanitation workers in Memphis to strike as part of his Poor People’s Campaign. He once said that it is about the “quality, not the longevity, of one’s life is what is important.” His legacy of racial, social, and economic justice and equality will outlive us all.
