As summer is coming to an end, we would like to highlight one of our team members who has been out in the community making a difference.

Kalvin Murphy joined Connecting For Good in February of 2018 as a new AmeriCorps VISTA. Having the role of Volunteer Coordinator, Kalvin’s responsibilities include training, recruiting, and managing volunteers in carrying out CFG’s mission of bridging the digital divide.

Growing up in Prairie Village, KS and attending Shawnee Mission East High School, Kalvin has always had a passion for philanthropy and serving others in the community. With a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and minor in Poverty Studies from Washburn University, his goal is to work with programs and organizations that prevent people from entering the criminal justice system rather than putting them into the system.

What Kalvin enjoys most about his position as Volunteer Coordinator is the opportunity to work and meet with selfless and ambitious individuals whose goal is to strengthen and empower Kansas City’s urban core. Having the privilege to build capacity and collaborate with nonprofit professionals will hopefully help kick start his career in working in the nonprofit sector.

In his free time, he enjoys studying nutrition, exploring Kansas City, and learning about astronomy and astrophysics. Having a passion for the mountains and the outdoors, Kalvin is planning on hiking Long’s Peak outside of Estes Park, CO in the summer of 2019.
